Visions for Huntington

The State of Vermont has awarded Huntington a Municipal Planning Grant to consider changing the current zoning regulations effecting Huntington’s two villages (Center and the Lower Village) and to consider updating the existing Village regulations with Form Based Codes, a more functional type of zoning.

Form Based Codes are less restrictive regulations that promote a more walkable, more workable, more human environment that preserves the historic nature and character of the villages but encourages and enables mixed-use development. Additionally, with Form Based Codes, the permitting process is more predictable and simpler.

Also, an application for Village Center designation from the State, for both the Center and Lower Villages, will be part of the Municipal Planning Grant process. This disignation will provide incentives and tax credits to property owners that will foster new uses or allow them to make substantial improvements.

Please explore this site to learn more about the Municipal Planning Grant and a parallel action the; Water & Wastewater Feasibility Assessment Group, which is exploring the possibility of providing a community shared water system and a decentralized wastewater system.

Both of these efforts will encourage and support the participation of the community for these efforts to be sucessful and to create a “Vision for Huntington”.
